Is Public liability insurance legally required for self employed people in the construction industry?

I work as a self employed labourer with bricklayers for asub contractor , am I legally required to take out public liability insurance

if you employ others and are responsible for the contracts then yes if you subcontract then the person who you ” work for as such” is responsible for the liability insurance, hope this helps x
