Affordable Life Insurance Rate

My boyfriend has Hepatitis C, where can I take him for treatment?
My boyfriend found out that he had Hep C over 3 years ago and has never gone to the doctor for treatment or to find out what genotype he has. He lives in Bakersfield, CA and I want to take him to go through treatment, but is there a place that offers free treatment or at an affordable price, I don’t think his medical insurance would cover it all. Does anyone know if there are any universities that are doing studies and could provide the treatment free or at an affordable rate?
I am seriously considering us getting married so that I can have him on my medical at work and then he would be covered. Also, can someone please give me some ideas on how to tell him that Hep C is a serious issue and that he really needs to take steps to take better care of himself. a great big thank you to all who answer!!
If he has health insurance through his job then this will cover his illness. You will not find free or low cost treatment for hep C because of the very high cost and the fact that all the clinical drug trials of 5-10 years ago have now all ended and the new HCV drugs are already approved. There are 4 million people in the US alone with untreated hep C due to no insurance and the high cost of treatment. Treatment will cost his insurance between 25-50K depending on what genotype of hep C he has and will take 24-48 weeks of weekly shots and daily pills.
Never use his razor or toothbrush, even once. Always think if something you share might have one microscopic bit of blood on it because hep C is very easily transmitted with blood to blood contact. Hep C can be rarely transmitted with normal sex but much more easily if multiple partners or high risk sex acts are part of the equation. Decide if you want to use condoms or take the risk of infection via sex.
I’d make his seeking treatment a prerequisite to getting married. With untreated hep C he has about 20-30 years from time of initial infection before he becomes at high risk of cirrhosis then liver cancer. Drinking alcohol will speed up this timetable. You do not want to be left a widow at 55 so make sure he gets treatment before you get married. The new combo drug treatments are very effective although they do have lots of side effects and are not pleasant – but neither is liver cancer. good luck
