Some states also require underinsured motorist and uninsured motorist coverage to protect you when the other driver at fault is unable to pay the total cost. By the way, collision and comprehensive car insurance coverage is often optional.

ok so i am wondering how much insurance would be for someone like me who has no credit and never owned a car before. i have tried checking online for quotes and stuff but i dont even have a car, and the sites like geico or progressive require u to have a vehicle to even get a quote. i live in minnesota and im 24 if that makes a difference.
The type or car–sedan, coupe, SUV, convertible–can make a difference in the cost to insure, especially if you need to carry comp/collision on it. If you just want quotes on public liability/medical/UM/UIM, that doesn’t generally make a difference. Just plug in a year, make and model similar to what you’re interested in and ask for a quote for it for your age and location, and you should get a figure. If it asks for a name and/or email, fake it unless you enjoy spam. Some companies might ask for a VIN, so you’ll have to skip their pages.
