Braces
Do you find yourself with slumping shoulders, a rounded back and poor overall posture? Have you been having any back or neck pain that could be related to your posture? Have you tried changing your posture on your own and found that the habit is too hard to break? If so, a posture support aid could be a great tool for you to improve your posture.
While the idea of simply putting on a brace or support and having your posture instantly improve is appealing, it only addresses one part of the equation. Posture braces can work wonders for reminding your body to sit and stand straight.
Along with wearing a brace, though, you should definitely consider adding some posture improving exercises to help build the muscles that give you good posture. This two-pronged approach can give you fast results and before you know it you will be standing up straight and proud.
When looking for a posture support brace there are a few things you should keep in mind to be sure that you are getting the right brace for your needs. Here are some tips of what to look for to get your started.
1. Decide where your posture needs the most help. Do your shoulders slump? Then look for a brace that provides support for your shoulders. Is your problem lower in your body or do you want to support the proper curvature of your spine? Then consider looking for a stiffer brace with more support to help with those things. Knowing just what area needs the most work can help you get a brace that will give you the best results.
2. Check out the straps on the brace you are thinking about buying. Thin straps can dig into your skin throughout the day and can leave you feeling pretty darn uncomfortable. Look for braces with thick, supportive straps or some kind of padding to make wearing them more comfortable. If you can’t find thick straps then consider wearing a thin t-shirt underneath your brace to protect your skin.
3. Look for braces that are made from breathable fabric and materials. Nothing is worse than wearing a brace that doesn’t breath! Look for braces made with fabric that allows air to move and will let your skin breath. Your best bets are probably spandex or lycra – skip the latex.
4. Don’t skimp on your brace. It may be tempting to go for the cheapest posture brace you can find. However, often times cheaper braces don’t provide as much support and are not as durable as more expensive braces. Shop around and make sure you are getting the best brace possible that still fits in your budget while providing you with the support you need.

What type of invisible braces are there or any teeth straightening procedures ?
My teeth are somewhat gapped and I was wondering if there are any teeth straightening procedures that I could have done to fix them and how much it would be. If not are there such things as invisible braces and how much are they ?
The fee for conventional braces is the same with or without insurance.
1. Total cost varies from $4500 – $6000, depending on which practice you go to.
2. The monthly payment can vary from $300 – $500, again depending on :
a) How many visits per month (usually 2)
b) how much the total cost you have been quoted
c) how much money you pay upfront
d) how many years of treatment required
e) A total of how many visits are required to complete the treatment
3. All of the above mentioned apply for Invisalign. The cost can be around the same range or even a little higher because it does involve series of impressions and trays. That means a lot of labor, material, and lab fees.
4. The smart thing will be to get a consultation, get a quote and shop around.
However, you want to go to someone who knows what he / she is doing !!
5. Conventional braces are covered up to the age of 16 or 18, depending on the insurance policy.
Invisalign is not because it is still considered an elective / cosmetic procedure that you can do without.
However, it shouldn’t hurt to find out from the insurance company.
6. Lingual braces are tricky. You need skilled dentist to place those.
The animation below will show you how teeth move with braces :

Lingual braces have to push the teeth through the bone as opposed to mostly pull those through the bone with conventional braces.
As a result the treatment time gets prolonged.
For all these reasons the cost is higher.
7. Ceramic braces look much better, but the cost at least $10 – $15 more per tooth :

These also get stained very easily and then look ugly. So, you cannot let anything that might stain those (like koolaid, etc.) in your mouth for long.
Good luck !!
