What are the rules and regulations for a photo studio? uk?
Hi I have the opportunity to have a small shop in a garden center I left advertising and thinking about having a small study that I have two studio lights background Interfit home support and funds would be allocated to three babies and children photography, not anyone know what the health and safety standards I have to go, what insurance is needed I have my deck equipment including to my computer and public accountability public indemnity does all equipment such as lights and backdrop have to be insured? Do I have a card payment machine credit? Basically I want to know everything Andrea
You need lighting equipment PAT tested (all the 'portable' electrical equipment necessary for testing, this means that everything has a plug attached). This need to be performed by a qualified electrician. You would need to liability insurance (I guess the Garden Center would require this of you as part of the lease). Disabled access should be ensured. In terms of toilets, sinks, I guess the Garden Center, a service of public use of these on the premises would not be necessary to provide these as are not providing refreshments – that is, in effect, a food retailer does not include use of services. You better be advised to do a risk assessment of procedure for potential risks / hazards are identified and removed / minimized. This must be clearly documented and reviewed regularly. You have a duty of care established in the Health and Safety at Work 1974 to protect the health, safety and welfare "of the members of the public and an AR is a way to show what he has done this. Should also ensure compliance with RIDDOR (Reporting of injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences Regulation) if someone is injured on their premises. Having a book accidents and accidents of any document / near misses. When you do the risk assessment you need to cover things like hazard, shock hazard electric light is falling, etc, etc to ensure that all covered. I would recommend visiting City Hall where you live and asking to speak to the Health Office Environmental Health and Safety. Authority would be run on Health and Safety. They probably can give you some brochures. In terms of payment, credit card machine would be more safe and convenient. It will cost money from the card issuers however. You do not have to have one, but many people prefer the convenience of paying in this way. If you handle cash or checks, it is more of a risk of loss.
