Cooperative Car Insurance

Auto accident in OREGON we are from California?
We were going to see family for Thanksgiving and we were in 3 accidents in 17 hours due to the icy road conditions the last one we were on the side of the road and a big rig with a wide load hit us and totaled our car. Myself and my 13 year old were seen at er for neck strain for me and my 13 year old got 5 Staples and a separated ac joint he also has post traumatic concussion .I also suffered from post traumatic stress from the accident. The truck drivers insurance accepted liability they were totally at fault. They are being very cooperative .What is a fair amount to settle without a lawyer? I just want to move on and be done with this. Our insurance company did give us 10,000 for the settlement of the car (replacement). We didn’t have a car payment but now we do. The other car was paid off. What should I do?? What is a fair amout to ask for to settle?
One reason people consult with specialists for these types of injuries and settlements is to avail themselves to their professional experience. Someone who knows about these cases has to look over all your medical records, total up the medical bills, lost wages, and make a determination of any permanent partial loss of function. Even though the lawyer will take one third of a settlement, you may end up with more than just taking what the insurance company is offering. Insurance companies are not in the business of giving anything away. They will make you an offer that is good for them.
