Green Flag Breakdown Cover

Breakdown Cover – Don’t Let It Be A Nervous Breakdown!
Of all the human emotions of helplessness that can be experienced, I doubt that many can be more traumatic than breaking down in your vehicle. More often than not, it happens without warning and despite the best of preparations before the journey. With that in mind, what can we do to ameliorate the possibility of a vehicle breakdown? Well for starters you could have your vehicle serviced regularly. This is a bit expensive, but if you travel a lot it will prove worthwhile. At least that way you may be forewarned about possible failures in advance. You should definitely make sure that you have a mobile phone fully charged with you at all times. A more recent innovation is a satellite navigation system so that you do not get lost, but more to the point, if you do break down, you will have an accurate idea of where you are.
However, the obvious is breakdown cover. It is relatively inexpensive especially if you have not had previous cover because you can take advantage of some excellent offers from some of the leading breakdown recovery companies. For example, there are companies offering basic cover for as little as £20 for a year, which is just over £0.18 a day! You can’t even buy a stamp for that amount.
I have some vivid memories of being stranded in some very remote places due to breaking down. The days of a passing motorist stopping and helping which did happen when I first started driving in the 1960s are now long gone. In my case, the exhaust pipe had broken free from its attachment at the back of the vehicle and was dragging along behind. This guy in a van stopped and after a bit of rummaging about in the back of his van, emerged with a metal coat hanger which he then twisted into shape and went under the vehicle, attaching the hanging exhaust by twisting and tightening the coat hanger until the pipe was secure. It got me home and I was very grateful to that Good Samaritan.
These days we have Good Samaritans driving along nearly all of Britain’s roads, and they can be recognised by their lettered vehicles. Of course, I am talking about the AA, RAC, Green Flag and many others. Some lucky people get free or discounted breakdown cover when they take out a new car insurance policy, but for the majority of us it is a matter of choice.
Unless you can tow a trailer with a massive toolkit and spare parts behind you and you have a qualification in auto repairs you are basically a breakdown waiting to happen! I was lucky in that my breakdown happened on a busy road, during daylight. However, envisage breaking down on some Highland Road hardly ever used in the middle of the night! It hardly bears thinking about especially if you also have children on board.
Breakdown cover is a no brainer, arrange immediate breakdown cover now and avoid any future nervous breakdowns as well.
