House Insurance Uk
Is there an insurance company for an Italian registered car and a UK resident?
I am a UK national moving back to the UK, but have a house in Italy and a car there too. I need to find an insurance company that will cover my Italian car as it seems that Italian insurance companies require Italian residency in order to provide cover. All the UK insurance companies I have found so far will only insure UK registered cars, but this seems too costly to do – will require changing the headlamps etc. In any case I want to leave the car in Italy, for use when I am there on holiday. Any suggestions? Otherwise I am going to have to sell the car, and spend a lot of money on car hire over the next few years!
And as an EU national, you are an EU citizen…
and you have a right to Reside in Italy
So, are you formally cancelling that ?
do the number of days you reamin out of country force that condition ?
I wonder if there is some EU rules – under the 4 freedoms – that can be exploited ?
I have met this before, in a different guise, where other EU driving licences would not be accepted by UK insurance companies for named drivers..depsite the fact that EU treaties clearly state that they are equivelent to the extent that on application they can exchanged for local ones. A bit of pressure and they relented, but had to quote the treaties at them.
I understand the inability of a UK company to know/accept the risk of insurance on a continuous basis in another country.. but at the same time, the V5C (an EU standard) should not be a blocker. If one approached an EU wide company like AXA or someone, surely they could negotiate with their other divisions ?
what exactly is the reluctance ?
because it is does not have a local keeper (i.e. is unattended ), even UK insurance suffers from that limitation I suspect somewhere in the small print.
anyway..some thoughts.
