How can I help my Mom find care for her recently diagnosed COPD?

Over the holiday my Mom was having a persistent cough and trouble breathing. She sought care and they told her to seek a specialist for her COPD. Only problem is my Mom does not have health insurance. Is there anything in Kansas city area or cass county area that is looking for individuals with this disease to partake in a medicine study? What should I do? She has stopped smoking since finding out. My Mom has had a collasped lung in the past in her twenties and now she is 50 years old. Something just tells me she needs to be seen asap, she is very stubborn and tells me it’s not serious yet but I am not sure she quite understands how bad COPD is or how bad it can get. My sisters just tell me well thats what you get when you smoke, I am angry to hear that from them. I know that is a possibility but it’s your Mom granted she has smoked since 16 still have to do somthing about this, I wish they had more compassion about it and wanted to help her.
