Student House Insurance
College Student covered by Dad’s Health Insurance?

Hey Im a college student and have been covered under my dads health insurance since I was a baby obviously. Ive been at college for 2 years. Spending 9 months out of the year away from the home

My father and I arn’t on the best of terms right now and I got a call from him today telling me he has a new job and his new insurance company will not cover me because I don’t live in the house at least 6 out of the 12 months…..Please tell me if this makes since to you…..I know he got a new job but the insurance thing just doesnt seem to add up…..If a insurance company was like this many college students would be without coverage because they are at school for 9-8 months out of the year…..I just want to know what you gals/guys think on this so I can possibly call him out on it. (If he doesn’t want to help me out thats fine….but dont lie to me!)
I am a full time student too!

As far as I’ve seen, the student is always covered under a parents insurance until he finishes his schooling or turns 24. The student must be an official resident of the household and a dependent of the parent. If a student lives in temporary housing due to schooling, he is still considered a resident of the parents home.

It’s possible the people at your father’s new job did not understand the situation
